Aluminum alloy power cable refers to the excellent electrical properties of pure aluminum by adding a certain proportion of trace alloy elements, and greatly improves the mechanical properties, completely solve the problems of low elongation, compressive creep performance, tensile strength, corrosion resistance, poor flexibility and toughness of pure aluminum conductor,   enhance the safety and reliability of the connection of transmission and distribution systems.

It also makes it possible to replace the copper core cable in the power transmission and medium and low voltage power distribution applications. However, when the aluminum alloy cable is promoted and applied in China, due to the misunderstanding of the application technology, cause the following three major Potential fatal safety problems in the connection of the aluminum alloy cable which currently difficult to solve;

power terminal

Fatal Safety Hazard 1 : The Connection Terminal Does Not Match

In power installation and power transmission, there are the three important aspects of cable product quality, connecting terminals, and terminal connection quality. In comparison, in the installation and connection of aluminum alloy cables, it is necessary to pay attention to the selection of the connection terminals and the control of the quality of the terminal connections.

At present, there are few special aluminum alloy copper connecting terminals in the domestic market that are consistent with the performance of the connected aluminum alloy cables. Many construction units mistakenly use copper-aluminum transition terminals or even micro-alloy copper connecting terminals originally used for connecting aluminum cables. This is a very unscientific solution. Because the aluminum alloy cable was invented for solving the defects of the physical and mechanical properties of the aluminum cable, and especially for the poor compressive creep performance and other defects, but the copper-aluminum transition terminal originally used for the aluminum cable was used when connecting. The aluminum part also has all the defects of aluminum. Because of the inconsistent performance of aluminum and aluminum alloy cables in the entire connection scheme, the advantages and values of aluminum alloy cables cannot be exerted and manifested. This connection scheme is extremely unreasonable, wrong, and has potential safety hazards.

Fatal Safety Hazard 2 : Terminal Size Does Not Applicable

Connection of the connection terminal to the electrical terminal equipment (circuit breaker, micro-break, molded case switch, etc.). At present, aluminum cables are basically not used as power distribution transmissions, and copper core cables are commonly used. Therefore, the design and manufacture of power terminal equipment are based on the specifications of copper cables. Aluminum alloy cable replacement copper cable is to increase the cross section and specifications to achieve the same electrical performance as copper cables. In the same electrical performance, the connection size of the aluminum alloy cable increases due to the increase of the specification, and the connection terminal of the aluminum alloy cable is basically unable to directly match the electrical terminal equipment, and usually only the transfer copper plate can be adopted.

Fatal Safety Hazard 3 : Crimping Operation Is Not Standardized

Specification of crimping construction of connecting terminals. The copper-aluminum transition terminal originally purchased for connecting aluminum cables in China is designed to be suitable for most aluminum cable manufacturers. Because the aluminum cable cannot be used for the conductor pressing technology, the margin between the inner diameter of the terminal and the conductor of the aluminum alloy cable adopting the conductor compression technology is too large. For reliable connection, professional aluminum alloy cable manufacturers or responsible distributors usually provide the construction side with a special crimping tool for copper and aluminum terminals than copper crimping tools to solve the terminal crimping, but most non professional aluminum alloy cable manufacturers can not do this, they can not provide professional tools, let the construction unit not standardize the terminal crimping, and even cause potential cable connection quality problems.
