What are the common electrical connectors?

In addition to meeting the general performance requirements of the electrical connector, a particularly important requirement is that the electrical connector must achieve good contact, reliable operation, and convenient maintenance. The reliability of the work directly affects the normal operation of the aircraft circuit and involves the safety of the entire host.

To this end, the host circuit has very strict requirements on the quality and reliability of the electrical connector. It is also because of the high quality and high reliability of the electrical connector, which is also widely used in military systems such as aviation, aerospace, and defense.

1.D-Sub Electrical Connectors

The D-Sub miniature Connector, also known as D-sub, is a connector derived from its metal case shaped like the letter D. This ubiquitous connector is used in a wide range of applications from small consumer products to satellite devices.

The D-sub connector consists of two or more parallel terminals surrounded by a distinctive D-shaped metal shell. This metal shell not only provides support for the mechanical structure, but also shields electromagnetic interference. D-sub is sometimes referred to as a rectangular cabinet connector. Its related models are DB9, DB15, DB25, DB37 and DB50, and the numbers refer to the number of terminal cores of the connector.

D-sub connectors are available for a wide range of electronic products. These connectors are commonly found in communication port devices and function to establish connections between different products such as computers, printers, and power supply units. Over time, the use of connectors has changed as technology has advanced. For example, early Apple computers used connectors to connect external floppy disks, and Cameron's Commodore's Amiga computer used the connector to connect to an external floppy disk while also connecting it to the video output. However, due to the size and cost of these connectors, the D-sub connector has withdrawn from the consumer market. However, such connectors are still active in the non-consumer sector and continue to provide their end users with significant combined value in form, size, density and cost.

2.USB Electrical Connectors

The USB connector is a way to connect electronic products to each other, and is applicable to mobile, audio-visual, automotive electronics, multimedia, and electrical appliances. It has been widely adopted in various types of external devices.

The Chinese name of USB is the universal serial bus. This is a new interface technology that has been widely applied in the PC field in recent years. The USB interface features faster transfer speeds, hot swapping, and connectivity to multiple devices. It has been widely adopted in various types of external devices.

The USB connector is designed as a temporary connection, so it has flat, durable contacts that can stand repeated connections and separations. Compatible with a wide range of platforms and operating systems, these connectors are ideal for most consumer electronics applications. In addition, they are low cost and easy to use.

3.Power Electrical Connectors

The power connector connects an electronic device or industrial device to a power source. They come with alternating current or direct current. Power connectors safely connect and disconnect live circuits because they have multiple safety features.

The power connector includes a safety ground connection and a power lead. These types of connectors typically have keyed plugs and jacks to prevent users from plugging them into a power outlet in the wrong direction. Their structure also includes any arc generated when the energized circuit is disconnected.

4.RF/coaxial electrical connectors

The RF/coaxial connector is a RF connector, also known as a coaxial connector. It operates on RF in the range of a few megahertz. A well-designed RF connector can block external signals from the circuit and prevent any energy loss. It should also not change the impedance of the transmission line to which it belongs, as it would cause signal reflection.

These connectors are equipped with built-in fastening mechanisms such as threads, bayonet, brackets or blinds. This spring-connected mechanism provides low ohmic electrical contact, which results in a high mating cycle and reduced insertion force.

RF connectors are commonly used in coaxial cable and television receivers, two-way radios, Wi-Fi devices with antennas, and industrial and scientific measuring instruments.

Instead of simply connecting the two wires together, the connector creates a seamless circuit with multiple components. They can send electrical signals from the keyboard to the computer and display in fractions of a second.
