What Can We Do with Heat Shrink Technology?

Heat shrinking technology is mainly achieved by shrink film. A shrink film is a thermoplastic film that is stretched and oriented during the manufacturing process and is heat shrunk during use. The heat shrinkage of the film was applied as early as 1936. People initially used a rubber film to shrink the packaging of perishable foods.

Heat shrink tubing was originally developed by Raychem Corporation in the late 1950s, when Raychem's chemical engineer founder, Paul Cook, made use of radiation chemistry (from which his company's name is derived) to develop the two main products that Raychem was originally known for: lightweight aircraft cable, and heat-shrinkable tubing. While Raychem pioneered heat shrink polymers, today they're produced by many different manufacturers.

Each type of heat shrink on the market is labeled with a shrink ratio, or the measurement of how small the tubing becomes when shrunken in comparison to its original expanded size. For example, heat shrink tubing with a 2:1 shrink ratio has an expanded diameter that is twice the size of its shrunken diameter. This, of course, isn't the only shrink ratio out there. A wide variety is available on the market.

Nowadays, heat shrink technology has evolved to pack virtually any product with plastic shrink film. In addition, shrink wrap is also used to make shrink labels and shrink caps, allowing containers with complex shapes to be labeled. Recently, new and updated application areas have been continuously developed.

The Material

The materials used for the heat shrinkable film are mainly various thermoplastic films. At the begining, it was based on PVC shrink film. With the continuous development of market demand, PVC shrink film gradually reduced, instead, various layers of PE, PP, PET, PVDC, POF and other multi-layer co-extruded heat shrinkable film developed rapidly and became the mainstream of the market.

Advantages:

1) Nice and neat in appearance. Suitable for a variety of different shapes of goods packaging;

2) Provide good protection. If the inner packaging of the shrink packaging is combined with the transportation packaging hanging on the outer packaging, the goods can be better protected.

3) Keep clean and isolate dust. It is suitable for precision instruments and high-precision electronic components packaging. For example, Seilsoul has got heat shrink terminal connector which can be safely used in any environment including seaside and humid areas.

4) Affordable cost.

5) Anti-theft. A variety of goods can be packaged together with a large shrink film to avoid loss.

6) Transparency. customers can see the product inside directly.

Development and Application:

The food industry is the largest market for heat shrink packaging. Heat shrinkable film is widely used in the packaging of various fast foods, including beverages, beer cans, alcohols, agricultural  products, dry foods, and local products, etc.

It is also becoming popular in non-food applications such as labels, caps, closures, fibers, clothing, aerosol products, sporting goods, electrical products, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, detergents, stationery, toys, office supplies, kitchen supplies , daily necessities and building materials, etc. You can find heat shrinkable terminals on seilsoul.

In the future, there must be more innovative application for heat shrink technology. What do you think will happen? Where else do you think these material can be used? Let’s wait and see.
