An electrical component uses terminals to make electrical wire connections. A terminal connection must have solid mechanical contact and good electrical contact to work effectively and to prevent damage to the conductors.
There are a wide range of electrical terminals you can select when doing an electrical wiring project. Since electrical currants and wire sizes vary based on the project, you will need to do some research to find out the right one that can handle the electrical load, and protect the wires at its connection point.
Applying the most suitable one is necessary not only for personal safety, but also for ensuring a safe electrical connection at the installation point in a facility, on equipment, and for other home or business applications. With that in mind, let’s take a look at ring or spade electrical terminals to help determine which one you’ll want to use to fit your need:
The main function of the ring terminal is a kind of accessories to conduct and achieve the electrical connection of products. In order to connect the wirefor conveniently, it is actually a seal inside the insulation plastic pieces of metal, with a hole at both ends, which can be inserted into conductor or used to tighten or loosen. For instance, sometimes two wires need to connect, and sometimes need to disconnect. Under this circumstance, it is very convenient to connect or disconnect at any time, without having to weld them up or intertwined.
Spade Type – Also referred to as disconnects, spade terminals are the most common electrical terminal you will find on a car. There are three types - male, female, and fork. Spades are most often used to connect wires to relays and components. They come in different widths, but most use the common standard size.
Male – This is the blade side. Male blade terminals are used to connect to female spades, T-taps, and can sometimes be used to replace a specialty plug in a pinch.
Female – This is the socket side. This is the most common connector you will use to connect wires to components.
Fork – Forked spades are used to connect wires to components that use a clamping hold down. They can be replaced in many cases with ring terminals, but for installation ease, the fork allows the wires to be installed or removed quickly.
