Tips for Choosing the Right Electrical Connector

Connectors are electromechanical components that connect electrical lines. Therefore, the electrical parameters of the connector itself are the first consideration in selecting the connector. Correct selection and use of electrical connectors is an important aspect of ensuring circuit reliability. So what should we do to choose a suitable wire terminals crimp connectors? Here are some tips for your reference.


Connector Type

The first thing we need to consider is what to connect and where to use it, which determines the type of industrial connector we choose. The location where the connector is used (indoor, outdoor, corrosive environment, etc.) will affect whether to enhance the airproof of the aviation plug or to add a shielding case to the insulation body. The type of connector determines which terminal to use and how many conductive terminals to arrange. Of course, it also involves some reference of terminal technology.


Electricity Requirements

When choosing electrical connectors, the electrical requirements of products should be considered. The voltage and current requirements of the product, whether the connector can be well applied to such electrical properties, these questions about electrical requirements need to be considered. In addition, we also need to consider other electrical conditions: resistance, allowable resistance variation, millivolt drop, maximum DA current, maximum DA voltage, inrush current, characteristic impedance, VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio), insertion loss and EMI masking efficiency.


Environmental Requirements

Temperature, humidity and other environmental conditions are determined by the location of the electrical connector. Therefore, the location and expected environment should be considered. What is the shelf life of other relevant storage conditions and information? The description of the environment should also cover requirements for shock and vibration, including those arising from maritime transport, as well as production conditions such as welding temperature and duration of welding cycle. Cable connectors from different manufacturers will have different effects in the same environment. Around the convergent continuous current guided by the connector is the area where the highest temperature is generated.


Mechanical Performance Requirements

For terminal connector, effective footprint, allowable dimensional tolerances, terminal insertion and pull-out force, and connector durability (the frequency of plug-and-pull fit) are all factors to be considered when selecting electrical cable connectors. For example, it is important to determine the tolerance of PCB. It is the critical value of the card edge connection and the feasibility of reaching the critical value. For low power circuits, the coating and the underlying material must specify that the signal standard is consistent with the environmental grade.

Specifications

Electrical wire connector manufacturers can use about 25 test institutions (specifications) as the source of all or part of their connector test specifications. Consideration must be given to the use of appropriate test specifications in specific application situations, including those commonly used internationally.


The operation of each connector for electrical wire will affect the function of the whole equipment. The proper electrical connector can bring twice the result with half the effort.
